Tableya is a traditional Filipino hot chocolate beverage made from pure, roasted cocoa beans that are pressed into coin-shaped tablets. Askinosie Tableya makes a very velvety-smooth, rich hot chocolate, but even more importantly this Tableya has a story: all proceeds directly support our Chocolate University program.
Tableya began as part of our A Product of Change™ initiative; we partnered with PTA’s at local schools in the communities where we source cocoa beans in the Philippines to import Tableya made by them, sell it here domestically, then we returned the proceeds to them to provide school lunches to the school children, most of whom were malnourished. After 10 years, the three elementary schools are operating the Sustainable Lunch Programs independently as we’d originally planned! And now our Tableya supports a different initiative, our experiential learning program called Chocolate University that educates and empowers local students in Southwest Missouri and students in our cocoa origin communities across the globe. To make one single 8oz. serving of Tableya:
- Boil 1 cup of water.
- Remove from heat & add 1-2 Tableya discs.
- Let discs melt for 2-3 minutes and whisk until incorporated.
- Add milk & sugar to taste, if desired.
Processed in a facility that also processes milk, peanuts, tree nuts and wheat.
